On the evening of Sunday, March 01, 2020, Rose Anne Styles Smith, age 85, of Marion, North Carolina, surrounded by her family, met her Savior face to face. A native of McDowell County, Anne was born on January 12, 1935 to the late Ralph Ray and Addie Devue (Sprinkle) Styles.
Anne grew up in Marion, living in the Clinchfield community. She was a faithful member of Clinchfield United Methodist Church (UMC) and worked tirelessly in the fundraisers the church conducted, as well as being involved in Bible studies and prayer circles. She was also active in missions, whether it was in the Soup Kitchen at Clinchfield UMC, or in the Coalfields area of Appalachia with the mission teams of Fruitland Baptist Church, Hendersonville, North Carolina. She loved the Lord, Jesus, and considered it an honor to serve and worship Him with her life.
After retiring from Asheville Savings Bank, Anne worked part-time for Realty Group One. She loved to be active and on-the-go. Even in her later years she was not prone to sitting still for long.
Words cannot express the love Anne had for others, especially her family. Her smile was contagious, and she loved to laugh and enjoy life. Many “Annie” stories will resound in the days ahead by those who knew and loved her!
In addition to her parents, Anne was predeceased by her husband, Guy Claude Smith and a son, Guy Claude Smith II.
Those left to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy are her son, Rev. Michael Smith (Kelly) of Hendersonville, North Carolina; her daughter, Robin Smith Edwards (Ben) of Monroe, North Carolina; her daughter in law, Karen Smith, of Tyler, Texas; her brother, Buddy Styles (Barbara) of Arden, North Carolina; grandchildren Dustin Smith (Cecelia), Jennifer Pressley (David), Daniel Smith (Kelly), Jami Edwards, Wes Edwards, and Garrett Smith, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Anne’s life will be held Sunday, March 08, 2020 at Clinchfield United Methodist Church of Marion, North Carolina. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. The celebration service will begin at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Walter Peguese officiating. Interment will occur at a later date.
The family would like to extend a very special “Thank You” to the staff at Pruitt Health Union Pointe in Monroe, North Carolina. You all made a world of difference in Anne’s life, as well as the lives of her family. You gave her a place that became home for her. We will never forget your love and kindness!
Anne loved flowers, but we are asking that, in lieu of flowers, donations be given in Anne’s memory to Clinchfield United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 429, Marion, North Carolina 28752.
