Alvin "Donnie" Boone

Alvin “Donnie” Boone, 68, of Marion, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2022.

He was born in Mitchell County on July 09, 1953 to the late Alvin Boone and Patricia Wyatt Hollifield.

Donnie was a project engineer in the mining industry, and he was also a licensed electrician. He started working as a child and maintained his hard work ethic throughout his life. An avid deer hunter, he enjoyed joking with those around him. Donnie was a kind hearted man who would give you the shirt off his back. Though he was tough to look at on the outside, he was truly soft hearted on the inside. His family was important to him, and he loved his grandchildren immensely. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Sherry Robinson.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara “Bobbie” Smith Boone; two children, Jessica Dillingham (Paul) and Amy Dunham (Charles); and five grandchildren, Emma Dunham, Austin Meadows, Josh Meadows, Ryan Meadows, and Kristen McMahan.

The family will hold a memorial service on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 930 Shady Lane, Marion with Pastor Eric Grindstaff officiating. The family will receive friends from 3:30 until 4:00 p.m., a half hour prior to the service.
