Alvin Eugene “Gene” Callahan, Jr., age 71, of Marion, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Autumn Care of Marion.
A lifelong resident of Marion, Gene was born August 25, 1953 to the late Alvin Eugene Callahan, Sr. and Hazel Owenby Callahan.
Gene spent his career in the automotive supply business, where he dedicated many years of service. His career led to many friendships that he truly cherished. Gene was a beloved "Gramps," cherishing the time he spent with his two grandsons, who brought immense joy and pride to his life. His love for family was unsurpassed. He attended Yancey Street Baptist Church, and Gene's relationship with the Lord was a cornerstone of his life.
Beyond his professional and spiritual commitments, Gene enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests. He frequently visited the trade lot, where he would spend time engaging with friends and sharing stories. An avid fan of television, he took pleasure in shows like American Pickers and Gunsmoke. His passion for guns, knives, and tractors also marked his character. Gene's warm personality and unwavering faith were particularly evident during his courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He faced each challenge with a strength that inspired everyone around him. His family takes great joy in knowing he is healed and has a new body.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Tammy Kirby Callahan; his son, Chris Callahan and his wife Amber; two grandsons, Colton and Chase; and a special friend and roommate from Autumn Care, Don McClure.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. at Beam Funeral Service. A graveside service will immediately follow at Oak Grove Cemetery with Pastor Dean Owenby officiating.
Those serving as honorary pallbearers will be Ricky Benfield, Cory Benfield, Mike Chrisawn, Arnold Crisp, Todd Bivens, Robbie Finley, and Jim Jaynes.
