Alma Smith

Alma Smith, age 89, of Nebo, North Carolina, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021 at Deer Park Health & Rehabilitation in Nebo.  The daughter of the late Sydney and Rosa Hicks Harward, she was born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on April 25, 1932.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Smith, who passed away in 1996.

An avid gardener who loved to cook, which she was good at, Alma was an amazing hostess.  She was known and skilled at creating fun times.  She enjoyed family and friends gathering at her beach house and took great pride in entertaining and cooking for them.  Alma was full of determination, was warm and embracing, but could also be a strong woman when needed.  Everyone was welcomed at her and Bruce’s home and no one was a stranger to them.  She was a prior member of Topsail Island Moose Lodge #2061.

She is survived by one daughter, Gale Oliver; one son, Kelly Smith; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. 

In keeping with Alma’s wishes, no services are scheduled at this time.
