Allen Ernest "Skip" Roth

April 2, 1945 — March 5, 2025

Old Fort

Allen Ernest “Skip” Roth, 79, of Old Fort, passed away shortly after midnight on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Hospice of the Carolina Foothills.

He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on April 2, 1945 to the late Alice “Cissy” Violette Coil.

Skip was a lifelong artist who specialized in lithography and sculpture. He took the principles learned from these art forms and later dedicated himself to the art of chainsaw carving, and he was widely recognized as an original. With pride, he referred to himself as the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of All Time) of chainsaw art, showcasing not only his remarkable skill but also his passion for his craft. His artistic endeavors were not solely for personal fulfillment; he was a charitable soul who generously donated his artwork to support charities focused on women and children, reflecting his deep empathy and commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others.

Among his proudest accomplishments was his family and also the authorship of a book. He cherished the companionship of his beloved wife who passed away January 1, 2025, with whom he shared 55 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, memories, and a shared appreciation for the beauty of creativity.

In addition to his mother, Skip was also preceded in death by his wife, Trudy Roth, and his brother, Joe McCoy.

He is survived by five children, E. Allen Warren (Bev), Timothy Roth (Hayes- deceased), Chris Roth (Melissa), Ann Jones (Glen), and Linda Hamrick; six grandchildren, Damien Roth, Allen Roth, Brock Jones, Lanie Hamrick, Dylan Wilson, and Ethan Warren; one great-grandchild, River; two sisters, Patty Guttu (George) and Cheryl O’Daniel; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A joint memorial service to celebrate the lives of Skip and Trudy Roth will be held at a later date.
