Alfred "Gene" Eugene Effler

Alfred Eugene Effler, 74, of Marion passed away on Tuesday, October 01, 2024 at Mission Hospital McDowell. 

He was born in McDowell County on February 11, 1950 to Lewis Edward Effler and Ruby Davis Effler who preceded him in death.

Gene served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps. He was a member of Victory Temple Full Gospel Church. He enjoyed working on older cars, going to the Outer Banks and has always been an animal lover. Gene was mostly known for the love of his family who will miss him greatly.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Virginia Effler; his children, Michelle Effler Mathis (Buster), Sarah Grace Effler and Rebekah Effler Marban (Oscar); his siblings, John Effler (Gail) and Joyce Anderson (Chuck); four grandchildren, Brooke Weaver (Justin), Megan Mathis, Maila Marban and Oliver Marban along with four great grandchildren, Brayden Martin, Addison Weaver, Brantley Weaver and Mallory Gist.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 7, 2024 in the chapel of Beam Funeral Service at 3:00 pm with Rev. Pete McCombs officiating the service. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 at the funeral home.
