Albertia Marie Swepson Rutherford

Albertia Marie Swepson Rutherford, 92, of Marion, departed this life Saturday, November 25, 2023 at Mission Hospital in Asheville.

A native of Marion, she was born July 3, 1931 to the late Clinton Swepson and Maggie Mae Carson Swepson.

Albertia was employed with Washington Mills for over twenty years and was a beautician by trade. She was a faithful member of Addie’s Chapel United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, Albertia will be remembered for her cake decorating, embroidery, and her occasional stubbornness. She also enjoyed hosting house parties for family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Rutherford; four sisters, Laura Mae Martin, Wilhelmenia Outler, Blanche Goodrum, and Catherine Brown; and a grandson, Elledge Fowler, II.

She is survived by her daughter, Annette Fowler; three grandchildren, Antoine Fowler, Antoinette Manker, and Miguel Fowler; sister, Ruth Jenkins; and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Addie’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Walter Pegues officiating. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m.
