Ada “Ruth” Ross of Marion, NC, passed away peacefully and surrounded by love at CarePartners Hospice Solace Center on March 21, 2023.
Ruth was born in Athens, Tennessee on December 10, 1937 to the late Noah Abraham Womac and Mary Beatrice Cash Womac. She was preceded in death by her precious daughter, Jackie Shaneah Ross McCauley, and beloved husband of 57 years, Perry “Jack” Ross, (along with 7 brothers and sisters). Everyone who knew Ruth and Jack knew they were essentially inseparable and how fitting and what a blessing that she was able to join her darling in their heavenly home just days after his passing.
Ruth found joy and fulfillment in the simple things in life: spending time with her loved ones, gathering and fellowshipping with one another. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing delicious meals for her family and friends when she was able to do so. A hobby she shared with Jack was searching for and collecting Native American artifacts (arrowheads). She loved the beauty and peacefulness of the ocean and never said no to a trip to the beach. Ruth was a lover of birds and would often bird watch with Jack while sitting side by side on the porch. She enjoyed thrift shopping and was always on the lookout for a bargain find. She was an avid reader and her Bible was her favorite book. Ruth was a quiet though deeply spiritual person whose faith was most important to her.
Ruth wasn’t able to graduate high school as she was needed in the home to help her parents and siblings at a young age (she was one of nine); she obtained her GED as a adult and went on to complete a few college courses. Ruth worked as a hair stylist for many years until she served as co-owner/operator (along with Jack) of Ross Skid Products for nearly 50 years.
Left to cherish her memory are: children, Jenna Ross Taylor and Jacob Daylen Ross; sons in law, Larry McCauley and Brad Taylor; a sister, Kathryn Womac Mason; grandchildren, Aleigha West (Ryan), Caleb McCauley, Charity McCauley, Ara Taylor, Brielle Taylor, and Luke Ross; great grandchildren, Sophia, Noah, Caylin, Maximus, Charleigh, and Kendrick; special friends, Teresa Hurt, Joyce Davis, and Maria Davis; many other special relatives/loved ones/friends.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Rev. Richard Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m.
The family would like to express their appreciation to CarePartners Hospice Solace Center for the exceptional, empathic care provided.
